  What is Coronary Artery Disease?

Heart Disease is one of the most alarming diseases in India today. Approximately 50 million people have Coronary Artery Disease. It is a silent killer. Today 1 out of 5 deaths in India are due to Coronary, Heart Disease. Our heart is supplied by three major arteries, called Coronary Arteries, which carry blood to the heart muscle for its effective pumping.

Any narrowing or occlusion, of these arteries leads to chest pain, angina or heart attack.

Why does blockage occur in Coronary Arteries?

As we age, there is deposition of fatty material, in the arterial walls. This can cause narrowing of the arteries. This process is called Atherosclerosis.
With atherosclerosis, there is increased risk of developing Coronary artery Disease, Angina and experiencing a heart attack

Symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease:

 .  Chest Pain.

Who are at high risk of developing severe Atherosclerotic Disease?

Those who have:
.  A family history of cardiac illness.
 .  A smoking habit.
.  Diabetes or high blood pressure.
 .  Abnormal lipid profile.
 .  Obesity.
 .  Stressful living conditions.
.  Erratic lifestyles, irregular hours, poor eating habits.

If you, or your family members, have any of these risk factors, it is time to go for a Coronary CT Angiography check.

How is Coronary Artery Disease evaluated?

Noninvasive Coronary Angiography is a CT Scan which will tell us if the atherosclerotic process is sufficiently advanced to warrant treatment.

The patient lies on the CT Scan table. An intravenous line is obtained. Contrast is injected and the scan is done, all in just a few seconds.

  Advantages of CT Coronary Angiography:

 .  Safe, noninvasive procedure
 .  No need for Hospitalization
 .  No Pain or discomfort
 .  No Anaesthesia
 .  Reliable Results
 .  No pre-or post-procedure restrictions
